Jacomo

In the late 60’s, an American art collector named James Kaplan and French pianist Gérard Courtin came together to open a high end fashion accessories boutique on the very famous 5th Avenue in New York. They called it Jacomo: Ja for James, co for Courtin and mo to give the name a musical touch. Their Jacomo boutique soon became a hot spot for New York’s glitterati and jet setters. Always passionate about the arts, they discovered a new passion for perfumery. The first Jacomo perfume, the wildly popular Eau Cendrée, launched in 1970 in a beautiful bottle inspired by a sculpture Gérard saw in a New York museum. This noteworthy debut was later followed by the blockbuster success of iconic men’s fragrance Jacomo de Jacomo in the 80’s, which helped make Jacomo a famous perfume house.
